Pop-Ups?
Sorry if this is something that has been covered before and I missed it. But, twice today, I've visited the HTF only to have a couple of pop-up ads show up.
Is this something that's going to be standard? I thought I remembered Ron awhile back saying that there wouldn't be pop-ups on the HTF.
Or, who knows, maybe I've had some bad software find its way onto my hard drive. Stranger things have happened.
There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

HTF does not have any pop-up ads. There is some kind of spyware or other undesirable software running on your computer. Download and run AdAware to get rid of it:

Mike:
Travis is correct. We do not have any type of Pop Ups on HTF. I hate them myself. I also second Travis' recommendation for Adware and I would also recommend Pop Up Stopper (http://www.panicware.com/index.html).

Any file sharing programs (such as LimeWire or Kazaa)
or auto-complete programs (like Gator) will cause
numerous pop-ups on your computer.
I NEVER install that stuff on my computer.

Gentlemen:
Thank you. It is as I figured. I believe my 12-year old son has been visiting a new website to play some sort of game www.outwar.com
I'm fairly certain it is probably the culprit. I'm off to download AdAware. Thank you for your help.
I've never run into anything like this before. A true pain-in-the-----!

Just wanted to chime in and let Ron & Parker know that the no pop-up policy is very much appreciated.

I am befuddled. Something called GAIN got loaded on my computer with a couple of applets called PrecisionTime and cAlendar Manager. GAIN says if you hae their applications running you are allowing them to send you pop-up ads and sliders and such.
Don't know how it got there and am efforting to get rid of it all.
I guess I've probably been lucky to avoid this junk for this long.
AdAware did a complete scan of my computer but came up fairly empty.
If I can't eliminate this junk at the source, I will then try the Pop Up Stopper, Parker.
Thanks again fellas!

Can this sort of Internet detritus manifest itself on your computer in other ways?

I think most any commercial software package you buy today comes with some "hitchhikers." So beware when loading any new programs (and run AdAware immediately after doing so).
A friend loaded "Turbo Tax" on his computer to file his taxes this year, and later found that it loaded the Gator software as well.
Mike: Are you sure it's not electronic revenge from Best Buy?

Jack, I'm starting to wonder about that myself. My IE toolbars seem to changealmost everytime I reboot the computer. There was also a program (called Blaze Find) that wanted to take over my browser's homepage/toolbar, etc). I had to jump through hoops to get rid of it (if I, indeed, did).
**EDIT** Just launched my browser and the damn Blaze Find is back! **EDIT**
I have loaded both AdAware and PanicWare (both Pop-Up stopper and Pop-Up Scanner)at Travis' and Parker's recommendation.
None seem to be doing the job, however. This is truly aggravating. I have always kept my machine very clean of such nonsense (in spite of two teenagers in the house) and now find myself constantly annoyed by pop-ups everytime I launch IE.
I sure would welcome any other suggestions/advice.
