Hi all,

I brought the second new server online tonight, and all looks well so far. This means we now have the following servers taking care of HTF traffic:

- Dual 1.26Ghz processors, 1G RAM (htfweb)
- Dual 1.26Ghz processors, 1G RAM (htfweb2)
- Dual 1.26GHz processors, 1G RAM, 36G RAID5 (128mb cache) (htfdb)

Web traffic is being evenly distributed between the two web machines. This is the configuration that was originally intended before all the issues cropped up with the new machines.

The new server was put through a 24-hour burn-in cycle and passed with flying colors. The kernel update I performed also appears to have solved the stability problem with the first new server. I'll be keeping a close eye on things.

With this kind of iron online, I will be *really* interested to hear any reports of slow performance now.

Sir, an initial user's report: I'm on a 56K form of slavery at home. But tonight my iMac almost feels like it's on a high-speed connection. Really, it's seriously better. Awesome job! JB

Great, glad to hear it - of course, it's the middle of the night, so we'll see what happens once things start cooking again during the day.

Travis:

Things are screaming on my end. The webserver really does well with the 4 CPU set up between the two servers. The database server doesn't seem to know that anything is being asked of it to do.

An interesting stat that I just was looking over is that when I switched us to vBulletin from UBB we have grown from 11,000 registered members to over 37,000 and from 100,000 posts to over 1.3 million. We have been using vBulletin from January of 2000. Quite a change.

This site sees an absolutely amazing amount of volume, and the growth - including quality, not just quantity - is great. I can't wait till HTF is running on a cluster of 8 web servers and two load-sharing database servers.

Now THAT would be something. A total of 16 CPUs to run the webservers and 4 CPU on the database servers. I don't think our loads would ever go above .1 on any one machine.
