Note: This area of the forum has been set up to discuss/debate the use of cables, interconnects and tweaks. It has not been set up to offer an opinion that has not been asked for. If a member asks which brand of interconnect, etc. to buy this does not give anyone the right to tell them not to buy them in the first place in that same thread. If the member asks you for your opinion on whether to buy a product or not then your opinion is welcome. Posts that are made for the sole purpose of offering an opinion that was not asked for will be deleted!

This perfectly stated comment is on the Tweaking and Cables Forum.

However, many people are disregarding and bringing up bogus claims that cables do not make a difference. It is clear that such chatter is taking away from the discussion of what people who have seen the light and found sonic differences in cables are recommending.

Can administrators start strictly enforcing this rule?

There have been widespread violations for some time which is why I have not been participating in the forum and offering advice based on my recording work.

Thanks.

If people really object, maybe the Forum admin can create a massive "official thread" on "Whether there are sonic differences in cable."

Chu and others can debate DBTs and everything else until they are blue in the face, but others looking for interconnect or speaker wire can not have to have 2 page digressions about how nobody has proved this or that.

A modest proposal for a better Cable forum...

We don't like that... nor do we like bogus claims that cables do make a difference.

We don't like bogus claims, period. But that's rather difficult for a moderator to judge in an independent way. In fact, trying to get rid of "bogus claims" was not the intention of the note. If people want to discuss the merits of a specific cable, it's perfectly legal to bring forward opinions of either side and we can only hope - and must leave it to the judgement of our readers - that the opinions are intelligent, truthful and scientifically tenable.

If you have an example of a specific thread that does violate our general or specific guidelines, please report the thread directly to a moderator to judge it. Thanks.

Fair enough, but I think it is well established that cables do make a difference.

Most people post there to ask what a good cable is for Situation X. I would simply like to be able to recommend some products without participants bringing up the idea that 12 guage zip cord is all you need.

If participants want to debate whether cables are important as a public service, why not create a master thread at the top of the forum where each side can present evidence, anecdotes, etc. of their position?

Right now, we simply digress into DBT discussions and the like EVERY time someone wants a cable recommendation.

I am just trying to make it easier for members to get to the answer.

I agree that when an opinion isn't asked for then no response is needed or requested. For some reason cables have always drawn people to them that for some reason they cannot contain themselves to provide information that is not asked for.

So the bottom line here is not to set up some sort of FAQ, etc. but to better enforce these unasked for opinions by removing the post in question and warning the poster to not do so again.

If you find members that are doing so let the moderators of that area know and we will take care of the situation.
