I'm curious:

There are about 24 total threads in the home theater basics forum.

That seems like a very small amount. Are those forum threads regularly pruned? Or are there really that few basic questions being asked?

It depends on the forum you are looking at. The Software and Movies sections aren't small at all.

As far as threads being pruned or merged there again it depends on the thread in question. The Star Wars ATOC thread had been pruned several times for example.

I noticed that you edited your original post to be more specific.

What do you have your default page views set at? Since you last logged on? There are over 17,000 posts in the Basics area and several from today. If you have your default page views set to since you last logged on then this number will always be small. If you use the forum default you will see a lot more posts.

My default thread views is set to "Use forum defaults".

I tried "Show all threads", and then I got a mother load of threads.

My question now is:

How many days of threads does the "forum default" show?

The forum default is set to one day. So you will only see those posts that have been posted in the last day. I can set the forum default for the basics area to more days as the default.
