Re: HD DVD player updates

Heroes is in the process of being tracked down. One way or another it will be heading out this week. Last Starfighter, Elizabeth, and Knocked Up are heading out this week as well. Once I know that they have shipped I will send out an update. Expect to see some BD player shipment notices this week too.

Ah-ha! Even with all of that, I managed to leave out something that people were curious about! ;-)

The switcher is from Impact Acoustics, which I've seen get some good reviews (for what that's worth). It was necessary in order to connect Dish Network's receiver. Since I wouldn't want to have to turn on the Onkyo receiver (which connects through DVI) every time I watch anything (such as news or whatever) on TV, I needed to be able to switch between the Onkyo's output and the DN receiver. Actually, there's another thing with HDMI that I could hook up but, after some experimenting, I decided to leave it as is.

Anything sound amiss that I should know about? From your responses, I'm guessing that you believe the switcher could be the problem. I could try bypassing it, but then I run into the Dish Net problem. Plus, it's possible that bypassing the switch wouldn't solve the HD DVD problem (have to wait and see if the Blu-Ray player suffers from the same problem). If there's a better way, I'm all for it. The way things are currently set up, I'm not watching/listening to Dish Network through the Onkyo and that's okay with me ... at least, for the time being.

Toodles;

Kento-
Remove the switcher from the chain just to troubleshoot the problem. If you have the HD DVD player connected directly to the Onkyo and have that conencted directly to the TV and have no problems then it's the switcher. I recommed one from http://www.radiient.com/ The head of the company is Jano Banks, who is the #2 name on the HDMI patent. All his products actually work and fully meet the HDMI standards.

Just got home to find the XA2 waiting for me at my pickup location. Mine was shipped via FedEx though, not UPS, probably because I'm in Canada. That's very good since UPS sucks shipping things to Canada, but that's a story for another thread.

Too tired to open it now, so I'll have to do it tomorrow.

The second batch of Panasonic BD players was prepped for shipment and may have made it out late today (Monday). The tracking numbers don't appear to be working yet. As soon as they start working I will begin sending them out. Delivery is via FedEx Home Delivery.

Re: HD DVD player updates

I didn't realize how lucky I was being included in the first wave. With a last initial of "R", I'm not used to that sort of thing.

The Panasonic is a nice player. In addition to its virtues as a BR player, it does a very fine job upscaling nonanamorphic DVDs, of which, I'm sorry to say, I still have too many.

Re: HD DVD player updates

Yeah, RayJr, per AG's post 115 we're supposed to be getting Optimus after it streets later this month. "Are you LadiesMan217?! ARE YOU LADIESMAN 217!!?" LOL. Can hardly wait. Meanwhile there's that wicked IMAX re-release, which I highly recommend.

AG may weigh in with other comments but it's not my understanding, Gregg, that these 5 titles supplant "The Perfect Offer." It's just a coincidence that we're getting 5 titles, as Starfighter was a concession for how long we've had to wait.

Re: HD DVD player updates

The perfect offer is for retail purchases and requires a receipt to redeem. Our players don't quality for that. Paul is right, the fact that we are getting five free is a coincidence.
