Re: HD DVD player updates
Starfighter
Guys, leave Adam alone with the personal requests relating to payment, tracking, travel schedules etc etc. IMO, these requests are bordering on insane. Im 100% positive Adam will post any information he has as soon as he gets it. Deal with it on your end...Adam has a spouse, twins, and a full time job to do (in addition to all of this).
Please dont take the above as offensive, but please do take it :-)
ADAM, THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK!!!!
Gregg

Re: HD DVD player updates
Here's info about FedEx's hold option:
http://www.fedex.com/us/services/options/hold.html
I've done this myself, but usually when I know the tracking number. I don't know if this can be done per address, but it would be good to ask (FedEx that is). Also, it doesn't look like the service applies to FedEx Ground. FedEx (non-Ground) is preferable for me, mainly because it doesn't leave packages on the doorstep.

Re: HD DVD player updates
My vote is for Inside Man but it appears like it won't win.
In all honesty, I'll take any of them.

Re: HD DVD player updates
I'll cast my vote for "Elizabeth." It's probably the one in the batch that will look the most impressive in HD (plus, it's an excellent movie). Was considering "Inside Man," but since it's not getting votes, I'd rather be influencing something that has a far better chance of winning. The old effects in "Last Starfighter" will look even cheesier in HD, so that's not very tempting for me. Of course, I'll be thankful for whatever comes.
So far, it looks as if Elizabeth or Last Starfighter will win and they're both due out on September 18, which is next Tuesday! So, we may not have to wait long for them and could get them around the same time as the players.
Thanks;
Kento

Re: HD DVD player updates
Richard et al.:
From the link Cameron posted re FedEx' "Hold at FedEx Location":
Quote:
|
Within the U.S., when a recipient wishes to pick up a package rather than have it delivered, the sender must mark the Hold at FedEx Location section on the airbill and write the address of the FedEx location where the package is to be held. If you include the recipient's telephone number, we'll try to contact the recipient after the package arrives at our facility.
|
Also just spoke with a rep: you need to know either the tracking number or the doortag number in order to use this service. So, unless you instruct the neighbor who is picking up your mail to also check your front door daily for a FedEx doortag, it's not my understanding that the service is helpful if you're either out-of-town or the sender is not requested a priori to follow the above instructions.
Gregg:
With all due, we all have our respective obligations. I don't think the tracking question is unreasonable in connection with the shipping of over $1k worth of goodies.
At the risk of appearing to stare a magnanimously gifted horse in the mouth, the bottom line is that--TO NO FAULT OF ADAM'S--we've pushed past the window of time during which we were reasonably expecting (indeed, during which Adam was informed by the Promotional Group) that the players would ship. Ken Graffeo wouldn't be getting involved if everything had gone smoothly according to plan. The tracking question goes directly to and is part and parcel of attempts to "deal with it on [our] end."
Adam, if it relieves some of the strain on your time and patience for someone to contact Celeste Burau directly on something like this, then by all means let us know. Meanwhile, I'm sure I'm not alone in looking forward to your next update. I know I'm not alone in repeatedly thanking you for your time on all this.
I agree with your first para above, Kento! Immediately wanted Inside Man but current voting appears to be going in other directions. Will continue to watch how that develops before formally casting my vote. Someone may end up playing vice president and casting a Alex Rogan/Elizabeth tie-breaking vote!
Can we drop Knocked Up and get both?!

Re: HD DVD player updates
I abstain, courteously (name THAT movie!)
Anyway, no big wow about getting another copy of the titles, it just gets added to the pile for the contest I will run. I feel extremely grateful to have attended the show, to get these nice goodies, and to also be a reviewer here, so passing it on to another member is a small way I can extend that cheer, so it's all good!

Paul,
I'm not going to sweat it. I have a watertight storage box on my porch and UPS and FedEX know to put packages in it, but that assumes no sig requirement. If they require a sig and leave a doortag, I'll have the housesitter call and have them hold the package until I get back.
It'll work out one way or another.

Re: HD DVD player updates
Let me also add to Gregg's statement above....
Adam has worked his ass off from day one to get all of us
these players. In fact, he negotiated these players for everyone.
It's unfortunate that the shipment of these players have been
delayed. That's life! We deal with companies that promise a
shipping date and then because of a lack of their internal
communications, everything gets delayed.
Everybody will get a player. No need to send Adam or myself
email asking for updates. Adam will update everyone in this thread
as soon as he receives information. Also, personal requests regarding
contacting FedEx or otherwise for special delivery instructions cannot
be done.
In the meantime, we really thank all of you for being patient about
your players arriving in an untimely manner. I am sure most of you
realize how these companies work, and rarely is anything delivered
in a promised time frame. You have all been really great about this.
news in this area as he gets it.
