Is the saying - who goes to Vegas, stays in Vegas?
What a mess!!!
I was scheduled to fly out at 8:10am this morning on Delta. I got to the airport and discovered that my flight was 2 hours delayed and everyone was being re-scheduled because we would all miss our connecting flights.
OK, so then I was booked on a flight departing at 12:04. I started getting worried at 11:45 because there still wasn't a plane at the gate. At 12 they announce that the flight had not arrived yet because it was still sitting on the ground in Salt Lake City. Mechanical Difficulties were to blame. They then announced that all of us would miss our connecting flights, so we had to go up to the counter. The process of re-booking everyone and getting a lot of people hotel rooms took 4 hours. I kid you not!
I was offered a choice, I could get a hotel room for the night and fly out tomorrow, or I could take a US Airways flight out at 11pm. I'd fly the red-eye to Dallas and arrive in Charlotte at 11 the next day. I was told this was the best flight they could find.
Oh, by the way, my luggage stayed on the flight and will travel to Charlotte on it's own. I REALLY hope I'm the one enjoying all those Blu-Ray discs and other goodies from the convention, and not some luggage guy.
At this point, I just want to get the hell out of Vegas. After two failed flights today, I figured I had a better chance of making it home from Dallas.
I had to go to the US Airways ticket counter to get my new tickets. I told the ticket agent that they weren't to blame for Delta's problems, but I asked if it was possible to get a better flight. There was!!
I'm now scheduled for a direct flight to Charlotte leaving at 11pm!
I've been at the airport since 6:30am and won't leave until 11pm. (fingers crossed)
Fortunately I discovered that the airport has free wi-fi, so at least I can catch up on my internet. (and complain)
What happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas. I guess I happened?

Wow, that sucks man! I didn't know how dire it was for you. I'll be heading that way myself soon and my flight isn't until 9 PM. Maybe we can meet up and pass the time?
If the way is clear, go forward...

Cool!
I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. I just sent you my cell phone number via private message.

Re: Is the saying - who goes to Vegas, stays in Vegas?
In the interest of fairness, I just realized that I forgot to mention the meal vouchers that Delta has given me. When I checked in this morning, they gave me a $7 voucher for breakfast and one for lunch. After I was switched to US Airways, they gave me a lunch and dinner voucher that I could combine for a $14 dinner.
Now I can tell people I got comped for meals while in Vegas!

Sheesh--sorry to hear it, Gregory. Hope nothing else happens with your US Airways arrangements.

It was out of the question for me to put those BDs in checked luggage. Keira Knightley stayed safely tucked in my carry on.

Sorry to hear about the mess and hope you make it back home soon.
I myself had no problems, though the final flight back had the classic screaming kid seated in front of me. Fortunately there was a much cuter and sweeter toddler next to me to remind me not all babies are bad.

I brought a spare duffle bag with me, stuffed all my clothes in there and crammed all my swag in my carry-on suitcase (clothes? who needs clothes?). I had to gate check it on the last leg and I heard the lady complain about the weight. When I brought it home it was right at the 40 pound mark, so I didn't feel so bad about screwing up her back.

Cameron,
I'm glad to hear that your trip home was less eventful than your trip to Vegas!
I must have just missed you by a few minutes before you left for the show. I got my packing done and then I went down to get a bite to eat and when I got back to the room I saw your note. Is it same to assume that the Venetian had the final balance correct? It sounded like the woman at the desk got it right when I asked her to calculate my share, but if I owe you anything be sure to let me know.
I caught a cab to the airport with Patrick & Patrick. They were flying Delta and their flight was delayed about 45 minutes. Mine ended up leaving an hour late. I actually had more trouble getting home from LaGuardia, as traffic was stopped for nearly an hour because of this:

It was a fabulous few days and you were a great roommate!

Sounds like Delta was having "issues."

Oh man... that is certainly no fun at all. I'm not a very patient person in general, but waiting around in airports is particularly frustrating.
I'm so sorry you are having to put up with this mess!

Re: Is the saying - who goes to Vegas, stays in Vegas?
It's almost 10pm, so hopefully I'll be boarding my flight in the next 30 minutes. WOO HOO!!!
My (Hopefully) final bit of fun was when I went through security for my US Airways flight. I had been flagged for the "full body cavity search." Not really, but I did have to go through the full "go through all your stuff" search.

Whenever anybody asks me why the hell I drove all the way to Vegas from Houston, I'm just going to point 'em to this thread...
Seriously, guys, sorry for all the problems you are having. Hope you all get home soon, with all swag intact!!

Re: Is the saying - who goes to Vegas, stays in Vegas?
Gregory I can't believe all the bad luck you have had getting a flight home.
Just to show you how lucky I have been when it comes to flying, I have flown over a million miles in the last dozen or so years and have never experienced the troubles you have had.
As for getting home this time, I arrived at the airport at 2:05 for a 3:10 flight and still made it home with my luggage.
Hopefully you aren't reading this right now and are on your way.
