Re: HTF DVD REVIEW: The Diving Bell and the Butterfly - Highly Recommended
Thanks for the review. I really wanted to check this out in theaters but never had the time. Looking forward to it. One question... you gave the video quality a 3.5 but I didn't see any mention of imagine quality issues other than the mention of the artistic license taken by the director or am I reading that wrong?

Re: HTF DVD REVIEW: The Diving Bell and the Butterfly - Highly Recommended
I gave it a 3.5 because it's really good in certain areas, and is a lot grainier in the stock footage sequences. It's not a bad looking film, but I'm sure it will look a little better in Hi-def. For me, I felt that the quality was higher in the sound, with the use of the surround channels, while the image quality was fine. I don't think this was a bad looking film by any means. But the key for my review was the sound, coupled with the quality of the film, and then the quality of the extras.

Re: HTF DVD REVIEW: The Diving Bell and the Butterfly - Highly Recommended
I'm surprised they didn't include as an extra the earlier documentary THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY, that came out even before the book.
It is from the director of DIVA and BETTY BLUE, and aired on either HBO or Cinemax in the late 90's. I've heard nothing about it in all the hype about this film. It was only 27 minutes long and featured Bauby writing. If Disney couldn't get the rights, I'm surprised someone hasn't released it. |

I didn't even know that existed. You're right that this would make an interesting addition to the mix. I also think you're right that it's probably a rights issue.

Re: HTF DVD REVIEW: The Diving Bell and the Butterfly - Highly Recommended
Are there any plans to release this title on Blu-Ray?
Thanks, Philip |

I look forward to watching this. I highly recommend the book (it was featured at my alma mater's alumni "book club", which is how I came across it).
