Just for the sake of clarity: You are mis-reading my posts. I have no problem whether people like or dislike the film. But I do get rankled when I see the film's proponents subtly put down those who don't love it, or infer that they're not "with" it. I'm not the only one who's noticed this and posted about it.
I'm having fun being a newbie here and I'm not going to contribute or respond to any more insulting posts.

Sir...and Im addressing you this because Im taking your word that you're older than everyone and I do respect my elders. But maybe it's you misread some of the posters like Joe who DID NOT put down anyone.
This is what you said, saying people who like it is strange. Just refreshing your memory....sir. But by all means don't let us stop you from having fun. So if I think Vol 1 sucks which I think it did, Im not directing the insult at you. That's just my opinion of the movie and not anyone who liked it.

Joe, you really ought to stop questioning people about why they didn't care for Volume 2. I didn't care for it all that much, and let me tell you you are no more a film buff than I. You obviously revere this film - for you it works perfectly. That's marvelous. But for others, myself included, Part 1 worked fine and Part 2 didn't work nearly as well. Mind you, I don't love Part 1 either, and IMO to call this film one of the greatest ever made is so hyperbolic as to border on strange.

Just compare the 2 Kill Bill movies to his previous works and tell which one is close to them?! Vol. 2 is!
|
I agree completelly, however his signature dialog in this one failed to keep my attention,it felt "recycled" and "tired",probably beacuse of the delivery by Michael Madsen, and David Carradine. It was nothing like Sam Jackson,or Ving Rames from PF.One of the most "quateable" movie of all times.

Well you're right... that is because Daryl Hannah and Uma Thurman had the best dialogue.

yeah but it wasn't much of it. Uma's narration was just flat out bad.Come to think of it I really liked the dialog in the strip club between Budd and his boss. That one,and the Mexican brothel scene was among the very few ones that reminded me I'm watching a Tarantino flick.

LOL...ok but what about Elle? The best exchanges were between Elle-Budd and Elle-Beatrix in the trailer. Every single minute of dialogue in the trailer was vintage QT.
And what about the dialogue between Beatrix and Helen Kim.
Cmon now, that exchange was just like Sam Jackson and Tim Roth in end of PF.
You go your way and I go my way bit.

Members,
If we're going to discuss this film in detail then please do so in the Official Discussion Thread located in Movies. This thread is for discussion about the dvd release.
Also, let's keep our perspective and stop making personal references towards other members. Thank you.

EDITED TO ADD: I'm sorry, Robert, I just saw your request after I posted the following (not sure how to delete it)...

It's just that I've been there, when I first saw V2 and was underwhelmed by it at first, too. It's just a suggestion that if it took me a while to drink it all in and enjoy it, possibly giving it another chance or two as a whole entity with V1 may benefit others, too. But it's all one big film, not two. The first half is more action, and the second is more "cinematic".

I literally mean that, and I'll stand by it. But just so you don't think I'm some 15 year old who doesn't love older films (anyone who knows me is laughing along with me right now, I can assure you - I'm 42 and I live mostly for old flicks and pretty much think modern movies are Over) my top favorites would be:
BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1935)
BEN HUR (1959)
CITIZEN KANE (1941)
SUNSET BLVD (1950)
THE STING (1973)
AMERICAN GRAFFITI (1973)
JAWS (1975)
BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID (1969)
- Just so you get the picture. Yes, IMO, KILL BILL (the whole movie, not "parts") is one of the greatest films ever made... of the cult/action genre.

Hey, it's the KB DVD thread, not the Kill Each Other Thread.;-)
So, still NO offical word from M on the other three releases???
Makes me wonder, what's 'really' in the works???
Movies are: "The Greatest Artform".
HD should be for EVERYONE!

Since no one has really addressed my comments on the softness of the transfer, which I found disturbing, can anyone tell me if the Japanese release of 2 is sharper?

I havent been able to find any reviews for Kill Bill Vol2 outside R1 I did see the various covers at Yesasia, like Reservoir Dogs. Too bad we dont have the same here, I want a Elle cover. The R1 DVD covers freakin suck.
Anyway,I thought the transfer was fine, a bit soft but I figured it was intentional. Not as great as some current transfers, but certainly not distracting.
A few have made comments about the Japanese version of Vol1 looking better than the R1, so maybe Vol2 will look better as well.

This transfer is definetly not soft. There is some mild edge enhancement and it still is not as detailed as other transfers, but it is a big improvement over the transfer in Vol 1.
If you want to see soft, check out the medium and long shots in Vol 1 on a large screen display.
