I bought the Cambridge SoundWorks Megatheater 520 ( http://www.hifi.com, from $699 to $1,499 depending on the speaker package). It's slimline AVS5000 unit has a very valuable feature in that after a few minutes of screen inactivity, a screen saver kicks in. It's a bouncing ball containing a DVD logo, and it changes color each time it hits an edge of the screen.
Since RPTVs are expensive toys, I'd look into buying a DVD or separate unit that offers a similar screen saver. Cheap insurance

Sears is comng out the 29th to replace the red and one other color. I told them I had a power surge and the tv reset to full contrast. Which is true! Since it was a power surge related problem the extended warranty covered it. Be careful and check your contrast and settings on a regular basis and avoid leaving the tv on a channel with fixed logos.

As I said before, I thought I have a slight bit of burn-in from watching 2.35:1 Anamorphic in Cinema-Wide on my 16x9 Pioneer. That combination left a very thin black bar, but I used to use it b/c I wanted to mostly fill my screen but figured I was trimming less off the sides than Zoom mode, (which will completely fill the screen from top to bottom).
|
Anyway, now I am not so sure. I watched a movie the other day that even zoomed I could not get rid of the black bars. Here's the thing, at the very top and bottom of the entire picture, along the black bars, I noticed the thin area that I've been thinking was burn-in. However, at the top and bottom of the movie itself, (on the border with the black bars), I noticed this same thin area of slight discoloration or a slight shift, (not sure how to describe it). Since those areas are well within portions of my entire screen that alway have picture on them, this can't be burn-in. Anyone have any ideas of what they could be?

Hey folks
I have the 47" panny widescreen, it has been profesionaly calibrated and for the last 2 years i have watched a mix of DVD's and those dreaded sports and news channels.
There is absolutly no sign of burn at all.

OK! Sears r&r all 3 guns on the 61sdx01b. The colors drifted bad over night so I called him out for a second recalibrate. He said wait 60-90 days before I called again to give the guns a break in period. And then he would recalibrate for the last time. Any advice????????????????

Update! Sears came out with a different Tech. and calibrated the guns so they were perfect. He said call him direct in 30 days and he would do a free calibration. The RPTV is perfect so far. What a difference in knowledge between the two Techs.

the problem i have is that I like watching court tv, discovery, tlc, etc. They all have a logo? Does this mean I shouldn't watch them now, and if so, why bother having the tv

If you've read this thread carefully, the answer should be obvious.

I have read the thread carefullly. Actually I read it several times taking notes, but there seems to be conflicting answers. Some posters say don't worry, some say never watch channels with logos, so say it is ok to watch them, but vary what you watch, so which is right. This is the first big screen tv I have boght, but already two days into it, I am afraid every time I watch something. The quality is amazing. Just curious, people who have burn in, tell me how you got it or what was burned in
