Changed set-up....o.k. to plug plasma straight into socket?

I am moving all my gear to a rack in a closet for a clean look.
So I will be moving the power line conditioner I have used for over the past two years.

*Can/should I plug my 1150HD straight into a wall socket?

I highly doubt plugging in your TV will hurt it.

I just don't know much about electricity and surges.
So I didn't know how smart it would be to plug in a $2K+ t.v. and have it fried the first time a good storm came through.

Only you know the reliability and stability of your power Matthew. Many places particularly have very stable, reliable power. Some others (like some of Florida) and where I live have a lot of momentary power interruption and/or surges.

If you live in an area with very stable power, you should experience no problems. But if you live where there are a lot of spikes in the power, you need a good surge protector or possibly a combination voltage regulator/surge protector. If you live somewhere like me, then you should purchase an UPS.

I live in a good area, but I wouldn't mind the peace of mind that protection could add. But my conditioner will be in the closet protecting all of my other gear.

What would you advise I purchase that will protect and isn't too big in size?

Both APC and Belkin also make very realible products that hit a good price point.. Both companies make commercial products as well as products just for your home.

Both have a pretty wide range of products that range from simple surge protectors to UPS systems that will protect computers and home theaters (and other electronic gear).

I have three UPSes in my home: one for my main TV and other AV gear (this includes an input/output for surge protection for the cable from my satellite dish), one for my computer, network, printer, phone, etc, (includes ports for the phone line) and one for my bedroom TV and AV gear.

If you want peace of mind, an additional $50 to $200 is not very much to spend (cheaper than Monster cables, for example).

I too used to think that, Lew. Then a lightning strike took out my first TiVo unit, because I had forgotten to run its phone line connection through a surge protector, even though the power connection was well protected. That taught me a lesson: You're fine -- until you're not.

Matthew, that particular Tripp Lite model looks like more than you'll need if your area has stable power, but in general Tripp Lite makes solid gear, and I've been very happy with their products for both PCs and HT equipment.

I sit corrected Michael, as I do think that it is better to protect than regret.

I worked so long in IT, that I automatically put everything on a UPS, as I don’t like power interruptions of any kind. However that is probably overkill for most, so I am no doubt overcompensating the other (and wrong) way.
