Quick Q about the Toshiba TW40F80
Hello all,
I'm new here and this is my first post.
I have a quick question about my TW40F80. I want to remove the projector screen to do some dusting and clear out some spider webs.
Being the cautious type that I am, I would first want to make sure to do it right.
There are some screws on the back side of the TV. The screws are only about an inch and a quarter long but the thickness of the TV is 5 to 7 inches.
If those are the screws I need to remove are there any hidden ones I need to be concerned about?
Please advise.
TIA.
Michael.

Re: Quick Q about the Toshiba TW40F80
Hi,
The screws on the back of your RPTV are not the ones to remove if you want to take off the screen. I'm not sure what those screws are holding, but it might be the mounts for the mirror, so don't touch them!
If your Toshiba is like my Pioneer SD-533 (it may not be!) then you will need to remove the front panel under the screen, then the vertical side rails. The screen will slide out to the side. BTW, there are actually 2 or 3 screens, lenticular, fresnel and possibly a protective screen.
I would strongly recommend that if you want to work on your set that you buy the service manual, either directly from Toshiba or a 3rd party vendor. They also show up on eBay occasionally. An even better option would be to have a professional ISF calibrator come in and give your set a full calibration, which it undoubtedly needs. A good calibrator will also be able to show you how to properly maintain your set, including cleaning the lenses.

Thank you so much for the reply Dan! I'm glad I didn't unscrew the back of the Toshiba and hope for the best. That would have been a disaster!
Good idea going with a calibrator. Do you have any recomendations on a good calibrator I can contact in the Fremont / Newark area in California?
Thanks again!
Michael.

Hello Michael,
Dave Levy of Abbey Road HT did a fantastic job with my Pioneer, but he is based in Des Moines and doesn't do road trips anymore.
Chuck Williams of LionAV works the SF Bay Area. I have never seen his work myself, but he has a good reputation and LionAV is run by Gregg Loewen, one of the senior administrators here on HTF.

Michael:
Get ahold of Gregg Loewen or any of his group at Lion Audio/Video Consultants and they will fix you up. They will set you up with a calibrationist in your area.
