Weird audio problems with Sony TV
My brother has had a 36" Sony TV for about 8 years or so, and it has been generally reliable. That is, until last week, when his wife sat down to watch "Grey's Anatomy", and the audio was inexplicably in French! It wasn't in French at my house, and no other channles were in French at the same time at his house. They tried hard, but they could not figure out how to get the audio in English.
Cut to tonight, with no ther weirdness between then and now. He turned on CBS to watch The Police on the Grammys. "60 Minutes" was coming in just fine, then it ended, and suddenly, no audio for the Grammys. Other channels had audio, and the commercials on CBS during the Grammys had audio.
He has no idea why this stuff is happening. I haven't had a chance to root around in his sub-menus yet, but even then, I'm not sure exactly what to look for.
They are watching broadcast TV the conventional way, by picking up a signal with an antenna. They do not have cable, satellite, TiVo, or anything extranious other than a VCR, which they can route channels through. Doing that doesn't solve these odd occurances, though.
It is possible on of their small children got ahold of the TV remote or something, thus causing this. No other work or changes have been done to the TV lately.
If anyone has any clue to what is going on, we'll all greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
