Thinking about getting a Sony SXRD KDS-60A2000
Hi everyone,
I'm thinking about getting a KDS-60A2000, so can someone please answer these questions:
1- I'm going to use it mainly for playing PS3 games, does it have any known issues with video games ?
2- I'm going to watch Movies on it too, HD mostly, but I'd like to know how do DVDs look on the unit too ?
3- This might sound stupid, but I have to ask, most sites I see say that the KDS-60A2000 supports 1080p and don't mention any other resolution (720p), so does it mean that it supports that too or will it upscale any 720p media ?
4- After how many hours of use should I change the bulb ? also, is there anything else that I have to maintain or replace over time?
5- Finally, does the TV have any cons that I should know of before getting one ? (the only thing I know is that SD media doesn't look good on it).
Any help would be appreciated.

1 - Not that I know of
2 - DVD's should look good on that set from an appropriate sitting distance
3 - It should accept ANY standard input resolution and scale it to 1080p
4 - Not sure (hopefully someone else will come by to help)
5 - Again, not that I know of

Thanks for replying, but when you said:

Will that effect the picture in a bad way (for example if I'm playing a 720p media), or it doesn't make any difference ?

Re: Thinking about getting a Sony SXRD KDS-60A2000
It takes any input and scales it to its native resolution of 1080p. When they say "Supports 1080p" it means the set will take a 1080p input (PS3 over HDMI) and will pass it as 1080p.
DVD looks great but I am using an OPPO DV981HD upscaling player and outputting 1080p on mine.
The Wii looks nice and it only outputs 480p. PS3 should look awesome.
The bulb needs to be replaced when it blows. You should notice a significant dimming just before it goes, unless it catastrophically fails. The set will tell you when the bulb has blown.
No other maintenance involved other than keeping the air vents free of dust. I would suggest putting the set on a UPS so that if you have a power outage the cooling fan will still work.

I doubt you will notice much, if any, difference between 720 being scaled up on that screen and watching 720p on a native 720p screen.

Re: Thinking about getting a Sony SXRD KDS-60A2000
This set lacks Picture-in-Picture, which is the main sticking point for my interest in this model.

Re: Thinking about getting a Sony SXRD KDS-60A2000
The Sony SXRD sets are much much much better for DVD playback than any DLPs I have seen, particularly for dark scenes.
And personally I don't understand what is so great about "picture-in-picture". I have it on my current set and had it on my previous set, and I've never used it. Does anyone really watch two programs at once ? And if you want to see what's on another channel, flip to that channel on the remote and back again with the recall button.
