50" Plasma and the Infant Child
Howdy!
This is the year I finally make the jump to HD and Plasma. I am eyeing, for price reasons and some decent reviews, a 50" plasma from Visio. This isn't about that choice, though.
I have a 10 month old baby who is cruising and getting her hands into and on to everything. Where we are positioning the new Plasma will be on a low Ikea drawer base (created for tvs, of course) with two larger cabinets on either side. I will be able to push the unit away from the edge better than our current 28" tv (which she has hands all over, requiring those plastic shields to protect the buttons).
My questions are around safety. Are these larger screens bottom heavy enough that tipping shouldn't be an issue? This is barring her getting a bit older and climbing up and grabbing the top, god forbid. This is more of someone 25 lbs. whapping on the screen where she can reach (bottom to middle at most). I don't want to hang it on the wall, yet, but that might be an option for overall safety, too. I would rather have it sitting on the cabinet. Do they have a spot on the top I can hook a strap to attach to the wall ala some cabinets that have a similar feature to prevent tipping?
Also, how do plasma screens do with fingerprints? Any worse or better than traditional television glass? Good clearners for it? Any overall harm to some finger prints here or there?
Thanks for the input!
Ciao,
Phil
