Vizio HD plasmas & LCDs

I saw an ad for Vizio LCDs and plasmas available through Costco and Sam's Club. When I went to Costco, I saw the 42" HD plasma is selling for $1300 with stand.

Now, I'm surprised that the only mentions of these panels this forum are in passing and pretty negative in nature. Usually the mention of a Vizio is followed up with something like "The Panny is your best choice".

I've found reviews for these panels on cnet and other sites that lead me to believe they're worthwhile. Same pros and cons as most other budgets out there, as far as I can tell. So why would an expert reviewer for cnet give a decent review, 35 user opinions collectively rate it even higher, and still all I can find on here is basically 'naa - don't get it.. pay $700 more for this other budget plasma'?

I don't have any allegiance to Vizio or anything, nor do I have problems with any other brand, but normally cnet is a good guiding source. If a product is wishy-washy or prone to being a dud, that'll usually show up in the cnet review and even more so in the user opinions.

Someone please enlighten me.

The Panny is your better choice (sorry, couldn't resist). I've never been too impressed with the picture quality of the Vizio plasma display and the company itself seems a little on the flakey side...JMO.

If you like the price-performace of the Vizio then Costco would be the place to make the purchase. Their no hassle return policy is unequaled.

Truthfully in the stores like Sams, the Vizio's look as good as the rest of them. They're feeding some kind of pre-set HD "Sams" feed anyway. But based on that and they're all calibrated to hell...the Vizios look nice. I also think the set itself looks glamorous with the high gloss black.

I'm sure the Panasonic is better but I've been impressed with the Vizios I've seen. Now the Akai Sams sells does look rather noisy and edgy if you will.

The Panasonic is a better plasma, but even the newest plasmas will get burn-in with a lot of game playing. Vizio is good for the price. For a ton of info on Vizio go to the AVS Forum and scroll down to plasma.
