I just use the THX optimizer on the THX cerified DVD's. Many Fox releases have THX i.e. Star Wars, Fight Club, and other higher grossing films.

Re: WhatVideo calibration DVD to use for HDTV CRT?

Avia or DVE are your best bet as a starting point.

I recommend against using the THX patterns available on THX optimode DVDs because they are limited compared to a more full-featured disc such as Avia or DVE, and they are also occassionally inaccurate. Usable as a temporary holdover until you get a proper test disc, but I would not recommend them beyond that. Also, some of the optimode patterns on HD formats (BRD) I believe are clipped, which further limits their usefulness.

Re: WhatVideo calibration DVD to use for HDTV CRT?

OK... I KNOW!! this is an older thread, but I am trying to find a calibration DVD... As I've seen most people recommend the DVI dvd... How did everyone get this... Is it just sold out, or are they coming out with a newer/ up-to-date one?? Because everywhere I look it says "pre-order" and they all say it should be coming out around 4/?/2007 ????????

Do you mean the DVE disc? If so look http://search.deepdiscount.com/searc...ssentials&rk=1

By the way, it's the HD DVD version that will be available at the end of April, not the standard DVD.
