Have a Mitsubish VS-6021 R
REAR PROJECTION BIG SCREEN

Television is vintage 1992 and has following issues:

Lost Red color and then the picture became dimmer.

Within the last month stopped working (No Picture but has power)

Due to the quality of the set I would like to save it if possible. (Was 2nd from the top in that year)
Has the wood doors etc and is just awesome.

However if the cost is prohibitive I may choose to upgrade.

I am thinking at minimum it will need one CRT and not sure what else. I know HDTV etc etc. but this is my Mothers television and she loves it and I have to say the quality of the set is amazing when it was working. Colors and film like quality are phenomenal.

Anyone know cost ranges for replacing a CRT etc. or general service pricing.....

Did they have 100 point convergence back then?

I am guessing at least $1000. to get it fixed. With just the more common 9 or 25 point convergence you will likely be far short of what today's TV's can deliver in terms of resolution.

You may be able to save the cabinet for some purpose, even as an entertainment center with an LCD or plasma panel TV inside.

I'm assuming that that is a standard definition TV. In which case god yes, PLEASE upgrade to an HDTV! For the sake of the children! Think of the children!

Chris is right. It's really time to upgrade your mother's set to HDTV. No matter how awesome the picture is, it will never beat an HD set.

Also, parts maybe hard to get due to it age and once a TV starts to fails, it will fail again after you get it service.

Time to dump it and buy a HDTV.

If you lost "red" and then the picture became dimmer, chances are you need three tubes. Guess about $700 each plus other parts at about $500 (flyback or something else along those lines). Makes parts about $2600. Labor will probably come in high due to major convergence at $500 plus you'll lose the set for a month. So you've already spent more than a new HDTV.

Keep the cabinet and use it for a kids puppet stage. 1992's best picture is at the bottom of 2005's pictures.

I think I will recommend she replace the set as cost exceeds repair .....

Maybe I can gut the cabinet and install a contemporary set inside for her....LOL
