Thanks for your help. Looking for a tube-based TV for family room.

Ideally want hidef capability and screen size of 32-36 and that circuit that keeps volume at same level during commercials...

I don't think you can buy an HDTV for that price.

you can pick up a nice 30" toshiba hdtv for less than 700

if you go refurb, which i would advise in this category of tv as they are very reliable in general, you can spend less for a 30 or maybe get a 34

or get a 26 lcd flat panel

lots of choices are out there under 700

Magnavox (and possibly Philips) are the only brands I know of that have the volume control circuit for commercials. Look into Phillips to see if they have it.

Not sure about the volume thing either. But, walmart of all places has some Sanyo HD sets, that get good reviews.

Send a message via AIM to Charlie Campisi
I can't personally recommend it, but some people on the forum have purchased from www.outlet.philips.com. They sell their refurbished tvs direct. You can get a 30" HD ready set for $359 shipped. There are a number of models to choose from and I didn't look at them all, but the $359 model has the volume control you mentioned. If you go this route, post your experiences. It would be a reasonable way to get an HD set for a secondary location like my BR.
