PeterTHX, I get the same type of responses even running my HD at 480p to my display...

You keep comparing to plasma????

I really put the challenge to a great 480p projector like the 4805. Which I actually think would toast your CRT direct view on PQ, especially if your not running it at a giant 100" size.

I mean they look really fantastic with a 76" screen, I installed one and given the larger screen size, I'd still give the 480p projo quite an edge over your display.

But we are all welcome to our opinions. Maybe word your opinions a little different. Lots and lots of real happy ED display owners on here, so you just can't so easily dissmiss the decision to go for a 480p display is all.

I personally could not even deal with a display as small as yours, but would never post it. Oooops I guess I just did.

Well, reason being is that plasma is where EDTV is most prevalent.

You DID know 480p wasn't originally considered an ED (just SD) resolution until pressure from set makers caused CEDIA to add it? This is the point I make: ED is a scam. Just like foolscreen DVDs.

Many people who buy plasmas assume they are all HD. Especially since they can accept a 1080i signal. No mention is made of the downconversion.

Most EDTVs I've seen can't take advantage of DVD 480p, resolution and color is almost ALWAYS better on their HD conterparts. Just because the *spec* says 852x480 doesn't mean you GET that.

When HiDef DVD becomes available (BluRay/HD-DVD) what would be the advantage for ED owners, especially when their sets can't take full advantage of the 480p of SD DVD?

Well, some of us have more limited living spaces. I could have had a 42" plasma in my space, but the XBR 960's picture is superior to all of them on the market.

Even on black level? Contrast? Angle of view. I can watch it in a brightly lit room mind you. How does SDTV look on it? Not as cut & dried a comparison.
