Anamorpjc...I'm Lost.

Erm, Ok, So I've been reading the Anamorphic Guide, and I'm a bit lost on something. Erm, I have quite a few anamorphic DVD's (as I've just become aware of the topic), but they all seem to 'stretch'. Erm, as I am to understand it, the horizontal stretching happens when using a standard Television and not a Widescreen?

My Television doesn't allow me to change the picture choice when in Component mode, basically it goes into what it calls "Wide" mode, and that's it.

So I adjust my DVD player to 16x9 and it stretches the picture, so I take it back to 4x3 (LetterBox) and it shows a letterbox picture.

21 Grams is the DVD I'm using
My TV Is The: HCN4727W (Samsung), http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?...7w&svbname=403

My DVD Player is: The DVD-RP91 (Panasonic), http://www.epinions.com/613040_Panas...ay_~full_specs

So Am I missing something here? Am I doing something wrong, or do I need a new TV, I'm new to this, but I keep here how superb Anamorphic is and I don't seem to be able to see it. Is it my TV not allowing me to get out of 'wide' mode?

Anthony, with a 16:9 display, you need to adjust the DVD player's picture menu to 16:9 output. You will then get a correctly scaled picture.

You need a new TV.

Anamorphic DVD's will play properly when you use component input. Their picture should be wide. There will still be some black top and bottom area particularly for the higher aspect ratios like 2.35:1. 4:3 and widescreen non-anamorphic DVD's will not play properly. Try S-video for them.

Keep the player on 16:9, not 4:3 letterbox.

Some DVD players do a "4:3 horizontal squeeze" that is different and separately selectable with or without the the player's "4:3 letterbox" mode, specifically to deal with TV's like yours.
