First, I'd recommend the Sanyo DS27930 for anyone looking for an analog 4:3 'bedroom' TV. It has a VERY clear picture and costs only $247 at Walmart. Now, I'm no newbie to this game. I consider myself a videophile (I've been enjoying a tweaked Sony HiScan 53HS10 for several years now). Anyway, setting on my floor, next to my HDTV, the picture looks VERY good! It offers a warm picture temp, allows you to turn off SVM and has a 16:9 mode! Now to the service menu...
I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANYTHING YOU DO TO YOUR TV BY FOLLOWING THIS INFO - TAMPER WITH YOUR TV AT YOUR OWN RISK! Here is the service menu for the DS27910 in PDF form. I can't find the exact one for the DS27930, but they are similar. To enter the service mode: (1) turn on TV, (2) unplug TV, (3) press and hold MENU on front of TV while you plug in TV. You should see the service mode green letters on the screen. Use channel UP/DOWN buttons to navigate and volume UP/DOWN to make data changes. WARNING- any changes you make are aujtomatically saved, so WRITE DOWN ORIGINAL DATA! The menu on the DS27930 and DS27910 vary enough that I was forced, through trial and error, to find my own geometry parameters, and here they are:
41 VTR7HP horizontal shift
42 VS vertical size
44 CDM5UVL bends top back
45 VC5LVL bends bottom back
46 VSC streches top&bottom vertically without touching center
60 EWD horizontal stretch
61 EWA parabolic
62 EWT trapezoid
63 EWB4EWP stretches top corners out/in
65 BOW4ANG tilts image vertically, but not horizontally

Enjoy!

Update!
I still recommend the Sanyo as a good TV, but either I screwed up the tuner while playing with the service menu (most likely) or I didn't notice it at first, but there were rolling lines and some smearing when using the tuner. The video inputs were still CRYSTAL CLEAR! As beautiful as you'll get with a moderatly priced analog TV! Well, I was going to return the Sanyo for an exact replacement, but I disovered the Panasonic flatscreen CT-27SC14 for $297 at WalMart. It has ability to turn VM off, color temps and TILT! (I'm a screen geometry perfectionist!) The Pany was setting right beside the $399 Sony Wega 27", and it looked ever bit as good as the Sony. I decided to get the Pany, and boy am I glad! I threw in Avia when I got home and geometry is nearly perfect with a couple of clicks of the tilt! The power supply is very stiff as there is nearly no bending of the lines in the needle pulse pattern or overscan bounce! One strange thing is that the user brightness control has to be turned to MAX for a decent picture. A side note, DC restoration is poor, but otherwise a KILLER 27" flatscreen analog TV for the money
One area the Sanyo beats the Pany is warranty. Sanyo has 1 year P&L. Pany has 3 month Labor.

I gotta go now... I'm watching the re-run of today's F1 British GP

How was the Sound on the Sanyo? Also a friend of mine bought a 31" Sanyo for the kids & I think the Tuner in it is really poor, good on the lower channels & poor on the upper channels & it's NOT the Cable Antenna it's the tuner in the set. How was the tuner in the set before you messed with it? I'm asking because a freind is looking at this set. Myself I told him to look at the JVC because in my area if you fight you can get it for under $300 Also does the Panasonic have the 16:9 DVD Mode? That's why I told him to look at the JVC because it has it plus a 15watt Audio Amp.

Sound was okay. Not bad at all. As far as the tuner, I was watching the British F1 GP live on Speed channel via Dish Network on my 53" Sony HDTV and the Sanyo setting on the floor beside it. I was using the coax outlet from the satellite receiver to the Sanyo, with the Sanyo set to channel 3 or 4 (can't remember). As far as I remembered, the tuner looked very good on the Sanyo. I didn't note any lines or smearing. It either just broke on it own or (more likely) I did something bad in the service menu later that day. If the tuner wasn't messed up (for whatever reason) the Sanyo would be setting in my den right now! If I was planning on using the TV for non-tuner duty, I probably would have kept it. I was originally turned on to Sanyo by Consumer Reports. They rate Sanyo as the most reliable brand for 27" TV's. And they rated the Sanyo I got very highly in their 27" shootout. And I didn't read any reviews where people had any problems with the TV.
