Any thoughts on Sammy HLN617W vs. Sony 60 inch XBR950 vs. wait for new DLPs?
Hey all,
My Samsung HLN617W has developed a pincusioning problem and Samsung is letting me exchange it for whatever TV I want in Tweeter. Options include: getting the Samsung HLN617W1 (has a few changes), waiting for the new DLPs to come out (but I need the TV before mid-June), and getting the 60 inch Sony XBR950.
I have always been a big fan of DLP. The major attractions of the Samsung are no burn in and the anti-reflective screen. Sony's plexiglass screen makes the image look sharp, but reflects all incident light.
I've heard that the black levels are better on DLPs compared to LCD, but I must say that the black levels on the XBR950 looked pretty good. I think there was less pixelation on the XBR950 as well. The Samsung tends to have a graininess when displaying some darker solid colors, which annoys me sometimes. Also, I think the XBR image is a little sharper, but this is probably due to the difference in the screens.
Perhaps the new DLPs will solve some of these problems and that might be the way to go. Unfortunately, I need to get the TV before the end of June, and the new Samsung HLP sets may not be out by then.
Any thoughts regarding all of this? Has anybody done extensive A/B comparison between the Sammy DLP and the Sony XBR950? Would love to hear your thoughts.
