Help me decide on a display
My 52" HDTV monitor is being officially written off as a lemon, so I need to look at a new display. The good news is that we're moving into our new house with a dark basement, so a projector-based system is not out of the question. I'll be getting a (roughly) $3000 Cdn refund for the television, and really don't want to spend more than another $1000 or so for the display, added warranty and installation (for a projector) all together.
The first option I've looked at is a 51 or 57" Sony or Hitachi, depending on the best available deal and performance.
What I'm wondering about is the performance of a cheap FP. Are HDTV-compatible data projectors up to snuff? Our couch will be between 12-15 feet away from the screen, depending what I ultimately buy. If a projector is the way to go, where should I be shopping (advice from Canadians is much appreciated here), and does anybody know of a particularly good buy?
