Lining the inside of your RPTV with black cloth can help, as well as removing the clear protective screen (aka the glare enhancer).
You can't get rid of halo though. Doing the above will make the halo smaller, but may also make it sharper.
I believe halo is caused by internal lens reflection. They use cheap lenses on CRT RPTVs it seems.
