Red Tint

I have a Panny 47wx42. I now have a red tint on my screen. You can clearly notice it when the tv is on. Everything has a reddest tint and the picture is awful.

What could this be?

Did you just get this? Sounds like a grayscale problem (or red push). One thing I found in all my tweaking grayscale by eye, is that sometimes, to get people's faces from appearing reddish or pinkish, I have to back down the blue values more than the red, weird huh.

Haqve you calibrated with Avia yet? depending on how good the grey scale is on the tv to start with you might be abkle to get surprisingly good results with a quick calibration, i know on my Toshiba i have gotten red green and blue push to between 0 - -5% on all three, and I am very happy with the results.

by the way what color temperature do you have your set on? funny but the cooler temperatures emphasize red more. (well funny if you think they are really talkign about hot and cold, but in reference to color temperature it makes sense

Actually, it's the labeling of color temperature that's off. Manufacturers call hot "cool" and cool "hot," and they do so in deference to human psychology: "Cool" is associated with "blueness." TV color temperature is based on the model of carbon being heated to 6,500K for the most neutral white. When anything is heated to its maximum extreme, it turns blue-white (the hottest stars, for example, are blue-white giants).

If you watch black and white material and the picture still has a red tint, then you have a grayscale problem and not a colour decoder problem ... not red push related.

Can get a professional grayscale calibration or can adjust the grayscale by eye. Increase either the blue driver or blue cut depending on if the tint is in the dark stuff or the bright stuff.

cuts = dark

The local tech is coming out on Saturday. I will update the post as soon as I know more.

The tv was working great. I've had it for 4 months. I calibrated with Avia, but over the weekend, I got the red tint.

Is the red tint severe? With areas that should be totally black appearing reddish, green areas looking yellow, but white areas still normally white?

The red CRT could be stuck on. For those who have or are familiar with LCD or plasma or DLP technology, it is as if all the red pixels are stuck on although not necessarily at full intensity.

There are always some individual controls for red, green, and blue. Adjusting these may fix or compensate for the problem but usually needs expertise to get the gray scale to look right.

The red tint is on the black. When I turn off the cable box, my screen looks red. All the blacks look red. The whites looks ok.

What could it be. Evil pop, red push or has something gone out?

I had the tv service once before because the green gun went out. I got the tv brand new 4 months ago.
