Extend Mechanical Warranty or Add Accidental Damage Warranty?

I have $75 Dell dollars. I can extend the mechanical warranty (parts and labor) for another year which would cover me until June of 2012. I added 3 years when I bought my 17 inch Dell Laptop last June.

I did not buy the accidental damage warranty that would cover me if I dropped my laptop or spilled liquid on the keyboard. I know that if I dropped my laptop, it would cost hundreds of dollars to get it fixed. A new LCD screen might be $400-$600 if I dropped my laptop and the screen was damaged.

My nephew is very computer savvy and has had a laptop for years. He said that extending the mechanical warranty beyond 2011 was not a good idea because laptops generate a lot of heat and do not last a long time like desktop computers. My original desktop computer is about 14 years old and still works perfectly.

Do you think I would be better off adding one more year to the mechanical warranty, or adding accidental damage coverage instead of extending the mechanical warranty to June of 2012?

I wonder if my laptop will last through June of 2012 if I do not drop it or have any other kind of accident, such as spilling something on the keyboard.

I do not travel with my laptop. Sometimes I like to sit on the couch with it, however, mostly it is on the dining room table.

Thanks In Advance for any comments or suggestions.
