MS Security Center

I turned off the automatic updates in MS Security center as it was causing me a lot of svhost.exe errors but even with it turned off I am still getting messages reminding me that my computer may be at risk because I have it turned off. Does anyone know how to completely turn this off?

Re: MS Security Center

I just did this last night!

HOW TO: Disable Notification Area Balloon Tips in Windows XP
This involves a registy edit. It's easy to do, but registry editing can easily kill your PC (but you'd really have to be playing around in there).

Last night I found a site which created a patch that will do the work for you, but I can't find the link. I did find this site which shows how to disable it but I have not tested it.

PC Hell: How to Disable Security Alert Balloons and Notifications

Just google Disable Microsoft Balloons and you'll get pages of help.

Go to Windows Security Center. On the left pane under "Resources" click on "Change the way Security Center alerts me" link and then uncheck whichever category of alert you wish not to receive from Security Center.

Re: MS Security Center

Parker, just out of curiosity, what anti-virus program are you running? I started having svhost.exe errors on shutdown in late 2006 when I upgraded to Norton Internet Security 2007. When I went to NIS 2008 last fall, most of the errors stopped but I still get them occasionally.
