Transfering media between two computers?

I heard there was a way you could transfer data from one computer to another if they are connected to each other with an ethernet cord? I'd like to be able to move things from my PC to my laptop without having to put it on a disc or external drive. Is there a way I can do this? They are both hooked up to the same router.

Probably the easiest way is to setup shared folders on each computer. You'll need to make sure both computers are part of the same workgroup or domain and then when you allow file sharing for a specific folder you should be able to see that folder in the "My Network Places" folder on the other computer.
