How-To Help! IR Blasters, Sat Boxes, and the Plextor ConvertX
What I want is pretty simple: I want to capture tv shows on my hard drive in a format/resolution suitable for my Zen. I bought a Plextor ConvertX PVR which records natively in Divx. It has PVR software, but it only has an internal OTA and cable tuner. I have DirecTV, an old reciever sitting around, and a Tivo with lifetime subscription that isn't doing anything else. So, I decided to see if I could frankenstein it all up and record my shows automatically, so I can take them with me.
Looks like this is, so far, more trouble than it is worth. I have to program the Tivo, and it records my programs, no problem. But, I also have to manually program the ConvertX to record at the allocated times.
I have found a few allusions to third-party IR Blasters that allow both programming of the PVR software, as well as the changing of the sat box channels.
Are there some good primers online to help guide me, or anyone here with specific advice? it looks like I can simplify things greatly, but I am not sure exactly how.
Thanks!
