CD to MP3

Just changed my car and no cd changer in the new one; looks a big job to install as well. So lateral thinking to plan "B"! Would it be possible to record a selection of my cd's on to a cd in MP3 format. I think that this would allow me to get a lot more onto the cd.
If it is practical, then could you recommend a suitable programme to do it (Nero?).

Thanks,

Brian

Re: CD to MP3

Brian, I would go with an in-dash DVD unit that can read mp3s from a DVD+/-R(W). pretty much any burning program, such as nero would do a fine job of helping you organize and burn to recordable disc formats.

Re: CD to MP3

yeah you can burn mp3's onto a disc, just burn it as a data disc and the mp3 files will remain the same.

Just rip the files you want into mp3 format and then burn em with Nero.

First, make sure your new car stereo plays mp3 CDs. Most do now, but some don't. Then getting a ripping program. I recommend Exact Audio Copy. I've never had a skip, even with scratched CDs. I use a different program to convert the ripped songs to mp3s, but I believe EAC has a built in mp3 encoder as well.
Once you have the mp3s of your songs, just drag them into a Nero compilation and burn.

Re: CD to MP3

Or if you do not currenlty own nero or any other program like that, Windows media player will rip the programs and you can burn them to cd directly in XP.

That is if you are using XP SP2

Re: CD to MP3

Thanks for the help. Manged to complete the task. Easy when you know how!

One other thing. Is it possible to have the individual track names to display when they are playing. I think this is possible with Nero on a cd compilation but can it be done with an mp3 cd?

Thanks again,

Brian

Re: CD to MP3

Brian,

If your in-dash is capable of reading/playing mp3s it will recognoze and display the sond's ID tag. So make sure you complete the ID3 tags of each mp3 song before burning it into a cd or dvd...
