Keeping emails in sync.

I have two computers; laptop and desktop. For mail I use Outlook Express. Is there an easy way of keeping the messages in sync on both computers. When I am working away I often find that the message I want is sitting cosily on the other computer; it can be a real bind! To sync the emails before I leave home and then after I return would be areal bonus

I do have a router so I am sure that there must be a way

Thanks,
Brian

You could set Exress to leave a copy on the server and then both PC's would download copies when you did a Receive but then you'd have to clean up your inbox online at some point otherwise it'd over fill.

If you can access your email via the IMAP protocol instead of the POP3 one, you should have no issues. IMAP stores all the mail on the server and it's visible on both machines.

Otherwise you're stuck with having one of the computers just receive mail but never delete, even when it fetches mail, as Andrew suggested.

Easy way for IMAP is to create a fastmail account (free) and then have your current email server forward your emails to the new email account. Then any IMAP client you want (PDA, computer, etc) will be able to log in and have access to the same emails.

Thanks for the info. Will give the IMAP/ Fastmail solution a go later today.

Another option would be to get a Gmail account and read all your mail via their web interface. Gmail can now fetch POP3 mail and even send mail using the address from the other account if needed. That way the mail would again be fetched once and visible on any computer one might be sitting at.

I don't really see the need for any real mail client at all these days when Gmail does just about everything needed and in a highly portable way. But that's of course just one mans opinion.
