Need help getting song/artist titles!

I ripped some of my CD's when my internet was down using WMP 9. I prefer using Cdex but since I did the ripping on the laptop I didn't have the program on it. So now I have 10 Cd's with Unknown Artist/Unknown song etc...I was wondering if theres a simple way of retrieving the media information using WMP9 and/or Cdex instead of me having to manually type in 150 songs & artist names. I poked around both apps but can't get it to retrieve the info...

Thanks for any help!

I'm going to try Fix Tunes, it's am Mp3 tag editor. One would suppose that it can change file names based on id3 tag criteria, but I haven't fired it up, yet.

I have an older version of Musicmatch Jukebox that will check it's data base online and add the information you are looking for. I believe they have a free version. Use the Smart Tags option.

CDEx has the ability to connect to CDDB to get the Track names, etc.

Re: Need help getting song/artist titles!

Thanks for the replies all.

Buzz, I tried Fix Tunes but it couldn't find the information.

Jeff, I tried using CDex to connect to the CDDB but with no such luck. I have used it a million times before with ripping my own CD's, It works fine with a CD and a internet connection but with a compressed music file it can't connect. Actually, it seems that unless a CD is present there is no way for a mp3 to get its info. By looking at the right column and the CDDB options I cannot link it to the mp3 folder that I need the info on... I'm thinking I'll be needing to be reripping these or spend an hour typing out the songs.

I haven't tried Musicmatch Jukebox but I'm guessing this probably won't work either. I hate musicmatch (had it some years ago) and before installing a new program for something as trivial as this I'm better off just manually putting in the info...

Re: Need help getting song/artist titles!

your not gonna be able too use the internet search function without the files being tagged in some way. Musicmatch while it is kinda garbage will allow you too select tracks and enter the name of the artist and album and will find the song names for you. winamp will do the same.

Try Tag&Rename. It has multiple ways to get the data.

If you know what the album is named and the files are numbered 1-x, you can even use the Amazon database to get the info, including album cover in many cases.

Otherwise you can use FreeDB.org from the program as well. All albums have a "signature" that it can detect assuming someone else already uploaded that info.

It is also otherwise a fantastic tagging program for music files, as well as making it supremely easy to rename files on your harddrive according to a standard you yourself set.

I'll second tag&rename, I totally forget about that, since I havent used it for that feature, but I use it for everything else.

Thanks again all. Nothing worked so I just manually put in the info although Tag & Rename did help a bit though
