Microsoft Flight Simulator on an HTPC

Hi all,

I have been researching and learning about building an HTPC. I know a very important component is the video card.

I will be connecting my HTPC to a 42" plasma.

While I am not a big gamer I would like to be able to enjoy running MS flight sim on this setup. Is anyone doing this?

Feedback would be great.

Thanks!
Pete R.

It's basically just a case of getting parts that can handle the load. If you are planning on flying Flight Simulator X, you would be advised to buy as beefy gear as your wallet can stand. The new incarnation of FS looks fantastic but also requires a fair amount of oomph to spin all those graphical features.

A 7600GT or 7900GT would be a fairly decent card. The first is cheap-ish, the other a bit pricier, but both are good and will also do a good job on showing video.

Your HTPC will of course have to be running a Windows of some kind. Possibly a plain Windows XP with Media Portal.
