Need help...Porn site pops up whenever I hit "Enter"

Subject says it all! Whenever I'm surfing the web and I press "Enter", a new window opens with a porn site and is horribly annoying! I'm sure this is some type of Spyware/Adware, but I deleted all cookies that pestscan.com found. However, Pestscan did find the Alexa Exploit on my computer, but I am at a loss to remove it. Could Alexa be the cause of this? If so, how in the heck do I get rid of it. I do not have the slightest clue as to how to edit the Registry files.

Thanks.

God bless!

We need a sticky for Spybot and Ad-Aware. Install, update and run. If it finds files that can't be removed immediately (because they are in memory) it will let you restart your system and they'll get rid of the spyware before it loads. Good luck.

Definitely get Spybot and AdAware and you can also try Spyware Blaster . It is designed to keep spyware from even being installed on your system. Download all three programs, run spybot and adaware, reboot if necessary, then run Spyware Blaster. It immunizes your system.

The number of items found with Spybot and Adaware on my system has gone down tremendously since running Spyware Blaster.

If all else fails, you can run msconfig.exe (from the Run... menu item in the Start Menu, if you have Windows XP or Windows 98). Go to the Startup tab, and select "Disable All", and reboot. If the popups go away, one of the items in the Startup listed in msconfig is launching it. You can use trial and error to narrow it down.

I used the above technique to fix a company computer, when the latest AdAware (January reference file) didn't do diddily squat.

How about a sticky with a link to the Mozilla web browser?

Hmm...I did what Max said...didn't help. I downloaded and ran Spybot and Adaware, they found a lot of things on the computer, but didn't fix the problem. Dag nabbit!

Jeffrey... what you need to STOP doing, is opening your web browser and typing in a porn sites U.R.L. before hitting enter!

Actually, it's my fiance's computer! I've only had access to it for 4 days.

Did you update Spybot before you ran it? If you did and still no change there's a small chance it's a virus. See if Freescan spots it.

This may help:

For instructions on removing a piece of spyware (let's call it "foobar" for argument's sake) a google search on "foobar remove" or "foobar spyware" usually gives good results.

I don't think this will help, but you can get Google's tool bar. It helps stop pop-ups, and it is a nice little add on for IE.
