Ok. I am here at work.
Bored to death.
I was remembering that my sound card (SoundBlaster 5.1 Live Value) has a digital out to my receiver. I remember the only output from the soundcard is a smaller microphone sized plug. What do I need to hook this up to my reciever? And where would I plug it in on my receiver. I do have a digital coax in available.
Question 2: If I were to buy a video card with a S-video out, can I use my TV as my computer screen ? Any downfalls in doing this ?

Thanks.

Brian

a 5 dollar minijack to RCA cable that you can get at radioshack or any hardware store.

Like This

if you want to add a slew of digital in/outs to your card, you can use an adaptor from Hoontech like this:

This is a good site for explaining various add-on boards:

Well you're stuck to a resolution of 640X480 for starters. The ability to read text is piss-poor. I'ts not bad for playing video games or making graphical presentations...but it's pretty poor if it was going to stand-in for a dvd player (and a stand-a-lone player is pretty cheap these days). However as a KraftDinner solution it will work.
PC has it's advantages depending on the graphics card you have....you can turn it into a Tivo, mp3 jukebox, cd-player, video game console, dvd-player

If you have component-in then you would be better off to get a VGA breakout box and hook your pc up to the tv that way. (just be carefull with scan rates...get PowerStrip and that'll help prevent you from frying your tv.)

What kind of tv are we talking about?
