Actually, it is possible. Sun Microsystems (and other companies) make 68-to-50 cables that work just fine, but they're NOT cheap. You'll find that a lot of people who do have them protected them like gold.

That depends on your system. A lot of systems automatically look at the IDE drive as the main boot drive; but never systems
should be able to let you switch to SCSI as the first boot device in the BIOS/CMOS.
