Online FPS recommendations?

FINALLY made the jump to broadband (DSL) and want to find some good multiplayer FPS online games to play. In LAN games, I've played Unreal Tournament and Tribes 1-2, but I need to get up to speed on current games. What would you all recommend?

New games I'm considering buying (based on reviews):

Medal of Honor
Unreal Tournament 2003
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Ghost Recon
Battlefield 1942

Let me know your thoughts. I have a $50 BB GC burning a hole in my pocket!

P.S. Mods - I put this in the Computer forum since this is for PC gaming and the Video Game forum appears to be only consoles. Please move if I am wrong.

Battlefield 1942 without a doubt. Also pickup the expansion, it's only $20.

Get Return to Castle Wolfenstien: Enemy Territory for two big reasons:

- It's a fun WWII FPS
- It's FREE!

This was originally to be an expansion pack to RtcW but instead was released as its own download for free. What's more, it's a stnad-alone game that doesn't require RtcW to be installed.

You'll definitely want to consider the following games:
- Unreal Tournament 2003
- Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield

BattleField 1942 definetely. Also, take John's recommendation and get Enemy Territory downloaded.

I've hooked up with the right people in Medal of Honor and I'm enjoying the game very much.

Pluses:
- Awesome gameplay and great WWII atmosphere
- runs great on a lower-end computer, but still looks great
- BEST sniping game in any FPS I've played, once you get good at it there's no turning back
- Also best stealthy WWII game there is
- can be found for cheap (I bought it used for $10 months ago)

Minuses:
- Semi-steep learning curve; play free for all 1st so you can keep respawning to get a feel for the weapons
- Game uses stealth to a big degree in objective based mode. Keep an eye out for servers with 3rd-party cheat detectors installed and strict anti-cheat policies.
- It's made by EA so while it has a alot of flash, there were only about 2-3 official patch releases (typical). There are minor bugs that affect gameplay, and even worse ones that hackers can exploit.

I have become addicted to C+C Renegade. It is a bit over a year old, but still fun as KY on prom night. The FPS is fun but the team strategy is even better. I plan on getting 1942 as soon as my new computer is done. MY present ATH600 can barely handle Renegade.

Definitely pick up a copy of Half-life, should be able to find one dirt cheap these days. Half-life Blueshift works too, since you're only after the serial number so you can get online. Then download several really good mods for that - starting with the granddaddy of them, Counterstrike.

Graphics may be a smidgeon dated but there is a reason its huge, and that is the fact that it is seriously addictive. Steep learning curve though since most of the people who play regularly have gotten pretty good.

But then again this is hardly a new game so you may already be all CS:ed out.

Thanks for the replies so far!

Right now I'm leaning towards MOH Deluxe Edition which has Allied Assault and the Spearhead expansion pack. I can get it at Best Buy for $45. I've heard the single-player missions are incredibly well done in this game as well.

I'm also definitely going to check out the FREE games of RtCW: Enemy Territory, America's Army, and CounterStrike (I already own Half-Life, just need to find it) as well.
