Need advice on upgrading my computer.
I want to upgrade my old PIII 600 mHz computer. I know that I am going to need a new motherboard, Processor, and memory.
I wanted to reuse my DVD rom, CDRW, and 40 GB/7200 RPM hard drive, and video card. It is a Nvidia 32mb TNT2.
I was thinking of getting a P4 2.8 ghz processor with the new 800 Mhz FSB and a new MSI motherbaord with the Intel 865PE chipset to go with it. I would also get two sticks of 256KB PC3200 memory. This way I can take advantage of the the Duel Channel DDR capabilities of this chipset and processor. This processor runs a little under $300. I will probably upgrade my video card later when I have more cash.
Here is were my dilemma comes. Instead of going with the latest technology in processors, I could go with a Athlon XP2500 for less than $100 and the get a new ATI 9700pro video card right away.
I mostly use my computer for gaming and burning music. And, of course surfing the web. So, which way would you go, High end processor and taking a little lead on the tech front, and waiting on the video card. Or, high end video without the wait?
