Are these Samsung players certified by the HD-DVD group and therefore use the HD-DVD logo (which was not the case with the previous LG player). |

Nothing yet. It wasn't in their press release, so I am going to assume no. The show floor opens tomorrow, so I will be able to get an answer in the next day or two.
The new Samsung combo fully meets the HD DVD spec (ethernet, HDi, etc).
No Signature...How boring is that!

Since they are HDMI 1.3 if they can't now, I am assuming at some point in the future they will be able to. In talking to receiver and HD player vendors as well as Dolby reps, it seems like this ability is overrated. Every single person I have spoken with has said it doesn't matter if the player decodes or the receiver decodes the bitstream.
No Signature...How boring is that!

That's definitely good to know. I've been looking at upgrading my receiver recently and have been wondering how much benefit there is to external decoding.

Well if I understand correctly on board decoding on player is terrific! If the player does all the decoding I don't need the latest receiver as long as it can receive the decoded signal. so either 5.1/7.1 inputs or capable or receiving multiple PCM tracks through HDMI (only newer models but a few out there already). Therefore no need to wait for latest receiver to enjoy HD audio. Better yet when they are out we can get a good deal on those "older" receivers that cannot decode these new fancy HD audio signals but who cares as long as they can take the already decoded signal from the player
