Help with Oppo 980/Denon 3805 volume control please

I'm having sound issues with this setup. Since the Denon does not have HDMI, I have a HDMI cable going through a HDMI/DVI switcher from my OPPO to my TV DVI connection. I have the 5.1 analog cables going from my OPPO to the Denon.

When I play DVDs, I cannot control the sound with the Denon master volume. Instead, I can only control the sound with the OPPO volume. The sound is coming out my 5.1 speakers, so I know it is coming through the analog inputs.

I've been through the manuals, and can't see what I've done wrong. The Oppo is set for 5.1, and I have the Denon set for analog inputs.

Help!

The 5.1 analog outputs of the Oppo, are mainly for sacd and dvd-a playback. For movies, it's better to use the digital connection (optical or digital coax). Try that..........

When using the 5.1 analog outputs, the Oppo is doing the processing. When using one of the digital connections, the receiver does the processing.

There may be a setting in the Oppo's menus, to bypass it's volume control? My friends that have Denons, control their volume with the receiver's control, even when using the 5.1 (EXT. IN) inputs of receiver. But, they don't have Oppo players.

Thanks for the quick response. I haven't even tried going through optical or component connections, but I'll see if I have the same issue. I'd still like to solve the problem with the analog inputs...one of the reasons I got the Oppo was to play some old SACDs.
