New setup

So I am a novice to all of this. I purchased an Olevia 42" 1080i LCD TV and the Sony HT7100 HTIB. The Sony was on mega sale at the time, which is why I bought it, but I'm not sure if the quality is any good. Can anyone recommend a decent HTIB for around $500? I'm trying to future proof myself as much as possible, and this Sony doesn't carry HDMI audio and the speakers seem kind of weak.

Anyway, I'm working on setting stuff up as is. I have a digital cable box, an Xbox 360 without HDMI, and a DVD player. I was thinking of running the Xbox and cable box through component cables to the receiver, and then a component cable to the tv. With the DVD player, I was going to go straight to the TV with HDMI and use digital coax to the receiver from the DVD player. How does that sound? My questions are this... if I run component to the receiver, can I then run HDMI to the TV, or do I have to stay analog? Secondly, can analog carry 5.1 surround... cause I really want surround sound with my Xbox?

*Update*
Ok, new info and questions. I got some cables from circuit city when I bought the sound system, but I'm seeing cables on amazon for like 2 dollars... what's up with that? Is someone new to this game like me going to see the difference in a $45 HDMI and a $20 HDMI (the cable is apparently 89% off)? And back to the Xbox. I have it set to output 5.1 and the website says the cable I have carries 5.1... but the receiver is not picking it up automatically. If I set it to Dolby Pro-logic, I get surround... but the manual says that's just decoding a 2 channel signal to 4.1. That's not what I want... why can't I get true 5.1 through this darn receiver?

You have to run component from the receiver to the TV because the receiver doesn't transcode/convert analog video to digital (HDMI). Oh, and before you curse Sony for this, I know of NO HTIB at this price that includes that feature.

If the Xbox audio output is via an RCA red/white pair (stereo), then obviously the answer is no. If OTOH, the Xbox has digital audio output (optical or coax) you could connect that to the 7100's receiver to get 5.1.

Cables are cables. I got my 3 HDMI cables from monoprice.com for less than $20 total.

If you're trying to do this using an analog pair, you're SOL.
