i had the sat audio cables hooked up to its audio inputs on the reciever.

"sat audio cables"? Do you mean "satellite"? I thought you had cable. If you mean to indicate that you have the cable box connected to an input marked as "satellite" on the receiver, the next question becomes
which input? Are you using the red and white RCA stereo cables? Or are you using either a coax or optical digital audio cable?

for the ps3 on the reciever screen when i had the input selector on dvd the coaxel light was on, not the hdmi light.

Presumably the PS3 is connected to an HDMI input marked DVD? I'm guessing there is also a component input marked DVD. Chances are you are going to have to tell the receiver which input you are using for the DVD player.

Is the Xbox connected or not? If so, how?

what did you mean by "Ditto the two game systems"
|
I meant that you might have to go through the setup on each of the game systems to confiugure the outputs.
I understand that manuals can sometmes be confusing, but they can tell you the specifics of what inputs and outputs are availalble on your devices - which is something most of us can't, because we don't own all of the same equipment and aren't familiar with the details of all the pieces you are trying to connect.
It would also help if you gave us the model number of your TV. Also you don't seem to have answered my question about whether the cable picture suddenly became bad when run through the receiver, or were there problems before that.
Thanks,
Joe
