Putting together new project

hey folks; first time poster, so be gentle. I'm putting together a Home Theatre in the bedroom (newly renovated) because, well, that's where we watch TV and Movies. A few things I'm pondering.

I've about $10k for the project, and I already have the DVR and HD DVD player. Looking at hanging a 50 or 58 inch plasma on an outside wall (suggestions as to a 1080p display are welcome). I like the new Onyko SR825 reciever, but I have to decide on speakers. My wife wants in-wall, but with the display on an outside wall, that is kinda out. I have seperate gear room right beside where the the TV will be. So it will hold a Cable PVR, and Toshiba HD DVD player, the reciever. Also, we want to put two speakers in the ceiling in the walk-in closet and the bathroom. We have an existing Bose waverider in our living room.

Questions I have:

1) I was thinking about the 6.1 speaker package from Bose to hook up the reciever. Any comments on the Bose product?

2) I never see reviews on the Bose system that includes a reciever (without a DVD player). Is it worthwhile (given that this isn't going to be state of the art space).

3) Are in-ceiling speakers a bad way to go for the whole system? How about just for the surrounds?

4) Any suggestions on speaker packages from out there?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

1. The search function is your friend. But let me warn you, Bose is not well liked here. Read and you will find out why.
2. See #1
3. You are making compromises with in-ceiling for everything. It's not as bad for the surrounds. Have you looked at on-wall speakers like the Def Tech Mythos series?
4. Besides my suggestion on #3, there are probably a hundred different manufacturers of on-wall speakers. There are dozens of suggestions for small speakers if you read through some of the Bose threads.

Re: Putting together new project

Thanks for the tips; I ended up getting the Defiinitive Mythos speakers (full size for the front/center, smaller for the satellite surrounds).

I'm already committed to the Reciever, so now it's just picking out the display.

So with 10K to spend, I've spent $3400 on speakers/wire, $1100 on the reciever, which leaves me about $5500 for the display and cables (say, 3 HDMI cables). I already have the Toshiba HD DVD player, and a HD PVR from Shaw.

So...

I'm 14 feet away from where the display is, we have several windows in the room but watch mostly at night (and don't mind closing the blinds). So I'm thinking plasma, and about 45", 1080p.

Any suggestions out there?

Even with blinds, you can't stop all of the light. LCD TV's have a non-reflective screen.

For cables, check out Monoprice. No need to spend big bucks on any cables.
