New- Clarity Problem

Hello!
I just bought my first house and I decided to finally get some sound that I was never allowed to have.
This is what I have
2 older Fisher ST-830 floor speakers with 15" subs on it
For power I have a JVC RX-9010V
I bought everything for $100
I didn't like the receiver, so I bought a 200 watt 2 channel Insignia receiver from Best Buy (I couldn't figure out the JVC). When I hooked up the speakers they sound very good on bass and mids, but I am having a hard time hearing vocals because it isn't very clear.
If I bought some small speakers that have good highs, would it make any difference?

Re: New- Clarity Problem

Those aren't subs. Those are plain woofers that happen to be 15" in diameter. A sub plays from 120hz (max) down. Those woofers play up to 500hz or 600hz. Maybe higher.

Are you talking about adding smaller speakers to your current system or replacing the dinosaur speakers? Adding is not a good idea. Replacing them with speakers that have a flat frequency range from 20,000hz down to at least 80hz is preferable. And use a separate, powered sub to cover the range from 80hz and lower.

My guess. One or both of the tweeters is blown in the Fishers. My audio intuition tells me those have been driven hard through the years and have been plain done in.

They flutter behind you, your possible pasts.
Some bright-eyed and crazy, some frightened and lost.
