Hooking up standard cable to an AV receiver

First time poster. I am starting a project to build a home theatre setup in my home. So, I obtained a Mitsubishi projector (HC100U). My plan is to route all of my video display to the projector thus eliminating the need for a TV.

My first task is to get my basic cable channels to display on the projector. Now, of course the projector does not have inputs for cable. So, my next thought was that I would need an Audio/Video receiver. But, I am finding out that A/V receivers lack a signal tuner to decode the feed coming from my cable supplier.

Does anybody know of an A/V reciever that has a signal tuner built so I can connect my basic cable coax to it, thus sending the video signal to my projector?

Thanks,
Bryan

You must be someone that is pretty well off, financially...........
I, personally, wouldn't do that. I'd use a projector just for movies, concerts, and special events. Replacing the bulbs in one, can become very expensive, and having it as my tv, would cause the replacing of bulbs, to be much more frequent. Nice if you can do it I guess.

Radio Shack probably has something for what you want. If you have a stereo vcr, you should be able to go through it, then to projector.
Good luck!

A VCR will decode the unscrambled analog channels that you pay for. Most new DVD recorders will do the same as well as decode ATSC channels when connected to an antenna. But these methods will only yield standard definition TV signals.

Hmmm.... I never gave much thought as to the cost of replacement bulbs for my projector. They are rather expensive. I guess if I find this to be an issue down the road I'll just change my behavior and do my casual TV watching in a different room.

Thanks for pointing that out.
