new and lost

Konichiwa im new to the forum and living in japan.
Ive been into HT for awhile now having built up a nice setup i think.
I have a yamaha DSP-Z9 reciever and a toshiba HD-DVD player.
here is my only problem though. every DVD i have that can be played in DTS format has this loud irratating pop sound that comes from the speakers. One speaker at a time all the way arround the room. at first i thought it was the cables so i swapped ou the Coaxial kimber for a optical. Didnt work, now i even went as far as take the reciever in and have the digital processing board swapped out because its under warrenty why not. Still nothing i know its not the speakers noway it could be. Only thing i havent changed yet is the speaker wire.
Any ideas would be great im lost with this trouble shooting.

Re: new and lost

Some models (A2, A20) of the Toshiba HD DVD players take the HD audio on HD DVD's and output it via optical as high bitrate (1.5 Mbs) DTS. This high a bitrate for DTS is rare on SD DVD, only a few were released with it. It seems older DTS processors on some receivers may have difficulty with the high bitrate, even though the DTS spec requires the ability to process up to 1.5, a few slipped through with this bug. It usually results in garbled or popping sound. I personally don't know if your Yamaha is one of these, but you may want to check it out. If it really can't process 1.5 Mbs DTS, you have two options: 1) Upgrade to an HDMI receiver to get the full HD audio or 2) Upgrade to a 3rd generation HD DVD player which outputs DD @ 640k via the optical.

Re: new and lost

ok i checked the model of the Toshiba player it is an A2. Now being my Reciever is the 06 Flagship for Yamaha how do i check and make sure it can do the 1.5 mb bitrate. it does have optical and coaxial but the Toshiba does not have a Coaxial port.
Edit i also checked a coworkers idea that there might be interference from somewhere. so i unhooked my DSL modem and wireless to see if that might be it. still got the popping. wish i could get a video of it so you all could see what it sounds like. kinda embarrassing when people come by to watch movies.

Re: new and lost

please one of ya guros has to have an idea of what could be causing this. all i know its embarrassing to watching HD right now because of it.
Also the bitrate shouldnt be a problem. i had the same issue with my old sony DVD player only when i played movies in DTS.
