remedy needed for backlight mishap

I recently purchased and had setup one of Cinema Quest's Ideal Lume backlights during a professional calibration. This is one great light. The guy stated that many of his clients simply duct tape them to the back of their displays.

I won't waste any time in recriminations but it would seem that any amount of heat over time will break down adhesives. I kept mute as it appeared to hold. Unfortunately, I was right as it lasted for 1 day.

I decided to buy some "industrial strength" velcro which was neater and has worked beautifully since.

My problem is the blasted duct tape adhesive residue left on the back of the monitor. This is a Sony 32" XBR4 LCD. Can anyone recommend a superior solvent or remover to rid me of this gunk?

Charles,

Try a product called Goo Gone. It's an excellent solvent and will safely remove glue and tape.

Yeah Goo Gone is the trick. Just be patient and gentle. It can soften plastic and leave a visible mark.

I prefer either lighter fluid or WD40.
In the case of lighter fluid, be careful how you dispose of the rags. Spontaneous combustion is possible.

I use plastic tiewraps to hold my ideal Lume in place on my old RP-CRT and plan to do the same on a new Plasma, no glue-ey stuff what so ever..

And yes , be careful with Goo-Gone, it may also remove your paint.

Goof off by Valspar is good, too. They have one version that is promoted as safe for contact with plastics.

Put this off longer than I should. Last night I tried white vinegar, nail polish remover and Goo Gone in small patches. Goo Gone was the only one that worked. The plastic cabinet was fine with no defects afterwards. I guess I'm a Gooey convert!
