Trying to extend HT into a second room

To start with I'm new so I'm sorry if I don't use the correct lingo. Basically I'm moving into a new home and wish to extend at least the audio if not video from a existing setup to tie into a nearby bedroom. The basic issue is most of my content is fed first my 1080p 56" DLP to upscale lesser signals then out to other things like sound system and a computer running Vista Media Center for DVR functionality. The catch is the tv in the other room will not be a HD tv for the moment (budgetary constraints) is it possible to downscale the signal to the correct format or somehow output it to the other tv in a useable signal? The other question is would there be any issues running audio signal from my current setup into another seperate receiver powering another 5.1 surround system the purpose being all the music on my computer/xbox/other sources being outputted into the bedroom with the second 5.1 without having to relocate them everytime. Thanks for any and all help its much appreciated!

Re: Trying to extend HT into a second room

It's not that difficult but the details will depend on what equipment you are using now. For example, my theater room consists of three DirecTV DVRs (1 standard def DirecTivo, 1 HD DirecTivo and 1 new DVR). They feed the theater projector video via HDMI and s-video. The audio goes to a Pioneer 7.1 receiver via coax or optical. They also feed video to a HDTV in the living room as well. Component and composite video cables are run in the wall, through the attic and down the wall again to get the video signal there. Audio is fed via optical to a Kenwood 5.1 receiver in the theater room. Speaker wires and an LFE cable run on the same path as the video cables to the living room. IR commands run through a wired relay system from Channel Plus. Both rooms have a Harmony 880 remote to make changing sources seamless.
