Harmon Kardon vs. Sony

I'd like to start off by introducing myself to everyone in the forum, and saying hello.

Next I would like to ask a question about putting to systems head to head. My neighbor and I live in adjacent 16x13 dorm rooms, recently I just purchased a HKTS 7 speaker system, I have yet to buy a receiver. My friend went out and bought a Sony HT-DDW795, receiver speakers and all.

My question is, what receiver should I purchase to blow his out of the water...I've been looking at the 246, and 445, but am not sure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ibanezplayer

Re: Harmon Kardon vs. Sony

What a odd set of requirements. The entry level avr-146 would sound cleaner, if not louder than your neighbor's sony. Odds are that the dorm room is not the besta ccoustic environment though, so perhaps the EzSet/EQ feature would be of some use to you. It comes on the AVR-147.

As for power ratings, the Sony's are optimistic, H/K's are not. (Look at power consumption, for one. The HK 146 draws "540W maximum", and the Sony's is most likely about half that.)

If for some reason, you like H/K above all other brands, here's a handy comparison chart
